Why do heavy metal guitar players dislike President Obama?

Back in April, we did a post about how Ted Nugent does not want President Obama to be re-elected.  The Motor City Madman is not alone in his anti-Obama views.  The Onion AV Club posted video of Megadeath leader (and former Metallica guitarist) Dave Mustaine explaining to an audience in Singapore that President Obama "staged" the recent shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Oak Creek, Wisconsin so that President Obama's administration could "pass a gun ban."  Mr. Mustaine did not elaborate on how such a measure would get through Congress.  Nor did Mr. Mustaine explain how such a ban, if passed, would survive an inevitable Supreme Court challenge.  For that matter, Mr. Mustaine does not explain how the shootings were "staged."

Given how it dropped the ball by not using Mr. Nugent's accusations that President Obama's administration is "wiping its ass" with the Constitution in attack adds, it is unlikely that the Romney campaign will use Mr. Mustaine's comments against President Obama.  Historians will have to judge whether the decision not to use this material against the President was the correct decision.

To answer the question posed by the title of the post: It would seem that heavy metal guitarists like guns and believe, despite a complete lack of evidence to support the belief, that President Obama would curtail their ability to enjoy using their guns.

Mr. Mustaine's comments would be laughable if they weren't trying to take advantage of the murder of innocent people.   The whole thing just makes me want to listen to this:

  2. Good post. Of course, one could do similar posts (on other topics) about the various paranoid delusions of left-leaning actors and musicians about conservative politicians. The upshot is that caring what actors and musicians think about politics is like caring what plumbers think about politics. (No offense, Joe—if that's even your real name!)

  3. One could do similar posts and I imagine we will in the future should such comments come to light.

One does wonder, however, how many people agree with Mr. Mustaine. One also wonders how long before Mr. Mustaine "clarifies" what he meant.
