Prior to today, Reader(s)™ might say that President Trump has a good excuse. After all, President Trump had not named anyone to the 129 judicial vacancies currently open in our great land. But if we are to believe the New York Times, a news source our President has pointed out as being a source of "FAKE NEWS," then President Trump's first judicial nominations have been made. You can read the article here.
Now, I not not want anyone to find my lack of faith disturbing, but there is some cause for concern in these nominations. Amy Coney Barrett, a law professor at Notre Dame, will be nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, which is Mr. Torvik's stomping grounds. Similarly, Minnesota Supreme Court Justice David Stras is being nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. I, like Justice Stras, live in Minnesota.
Despite this unfortunate news, please keep hope Gillette-Torvik Blog Reader(s)™. This handy list of open federal judgeships shows that there are three vacancies in the Northern District of Illinois, that Mr. Torvik could fill and two vacancies in Minnesota. Maybe President Trump is going to put us in district court rather than appellate court. Or maybe President Trump is waiting for a couple spots to open up in Hawaii. If so, then I do not mind waiting.
What do you think Mr. Torvik, will President Trump reunite us by putting us on the bench in the same district? I think that would qualify as doing us a solid, Any other districts that we should consider?

Surprise -- Trump was saving me for Director of the FBI!
ReplyDeleteI did not see that plot turn coming. But do you really want a limited term engagement rather than a lifetime appointment? Choose wisely.
ReplyDeleteWell, under Emperor Trump I expect the Director of the FBI to become essentially a lifetime position, Hoover style.
