The United States is Still Paying a Veteran's Pension ...

... to the child of a Civil War vet.

  1. What makes it even more strange is that the pension is paid to the daughter of a veteran who initially served in the Confederate army but joined the Union side in 1864, The article quotes his grandson as saying that the vet joined for the purpose of collecting a pension.
