The Nuge gets a haircut, ponders running for President.

CBS News has the incredibly important story of Ted Nugent, a.k.a., the Motor City Madman, getting a haircut.  He also shaved off his soul patch but that part of the story doesn't get much play.  You can see a picture of a short-haired Mr. Nugent here.  Our previous coverage of Mr. Nugent is here.

The picture is from the Instagram account of the Mrs. Nugent.  In the comments alongside the picture, one can read the following bon mots:

flaviousgeorgePresident Nugent?
carole51Maybe he'll run for president!
zackwelch_hooknkrooksPlease run for President. Save us from this tyranny.
keiththetazmanRun for prez Ted! America needs you
!

These comments about running for President may have been prompted by the following passage that the CBS story says appeared in the Washington Post (although the link to the Post article does not work and I could not find the interview on the Post's website).  The pull quote from the article is this:
Hi, I’m Ted Nugent. I have nine children from seven women, and I’m running for president.” Nugent takes a sip of water, having delivered his potential slogan. “Yeah, I’m thinking about it.”
I think Mr. Nugent is giving a sarcastic response to the question and is not seriously thinking about running for President. From the response, it appears that Mr. Nugent understandably thinks that voters who share his conservative views might not be enamored with some of the lifestyle choices he made as a young rock star.  On the other hand, I suppose having that many children could be interpreted as being pro-life.

Can a person without experience in politics, i.e., never a member of the House of Representatives or Senate, cabinet member, Vice-President, or governor of a state, get elected President?  By my count it has happened three times and not since 1956:  Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, and Dwight Eisenhower. Each of these men came to national prominence by being a general in a war won by the United States. That seems like an important distinction.  On the other hand, I doubt any of the generals could play a blistering guitar solo like Mr. Nugent.

What do you think Mr. Torvik? Is Mr. Nugent being sarcastic? Can a non-politician be elected president in the 21st Century?  What is the tyranny from which Mr. Nugent is uniquely qualified to save us? Whatever it is, why can't Mr. Nugent save us without being President?  After all, the Beatles saved Pepperland without become the Prime Ministers of Great Britain.

  1. Who am I to interpret the Nuge's oracular pronouncements?

I am T-Bomb, that's who. So here goes.

I believe that a non-politician can still be president.

I believe that the Nuge can and will run for President in 2014.

I believe that the Nuge will not be elected President in 2014, because that is not a presidential election year.

I believe that, nevertheless, the Nuge will, as you suggest, go on to save America without being President, Beatles-in-Pepperland style.

I believe he will do this by fathering his 10th kid with an eighth woman, and said child will turn out to be the second coming of our Lord and Savior. As a bonus to saving the country, he will save all mankind once and for all.

And on the last day, they rocked hard.
