Astute Reader(s)™ of this blog undoubtedly noticed that we
went over a year without posting anything. One of my regrets about that period
is that I had a draft post about how Ted Cruz will never be elected President
of the United States. There are many
reasons for why Senator Cruz will never be elected, I will address two.

Nailed it.
It's usually wrong to brag and it is usually wrong to take pleasure in the suffering of others. But is it wrong to point out that we called this back in July before anyone even knew Donald Trump running for president would be a thing? In any event, the New York Times reports that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is ending his presidential campaign. Perhaps he has decided to get back to the hard work of wrecking the state of Wisconsin.

Scott Walker will never be elected President
In 2012, we did some posts on people running for President of the United States that would absolutely not be elected. You can revisit the good times here, here, here, and here. We have already taken the position that former governor of Texas Rick Perry will not be elected president. While it remains early in the 2016 Presidential race but I think we can add Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to the list. He announced his candidacy this week.

Calling it now.
Back in 2012, we ran a series of posts about Republicans candidates who were running for the GOP presidential nomination that had no shot at ever being elected president. You can read some of the posts here. I am embarrassed to note that we did not do a post regarding former Texas Governor Rick Perry.
The New York Times reports that Mr. Perry has announced he is once again running for president. Why would a guy who finished fifth in the Iowa Caucuses think he can win the GOP nomination (and general election) this time? Well, one of his aids says that Mr. Perry has "focused like a laser beam on the task of running for president in 2016 almost since he dropped out of the race." This laser-like focus has included "donning hipster-style black-rimmed eyeglasses and trading his cowboy boots for black loafers."
I am not entirely sure why putting on glasses makes on seem more presidential. A quick review of presidential portraits shows that our only glasses-wearing presidents were Woodrow Wilson and Harry S. Truman. Maybe Mr. Perry thinks that glasses will appeal to democratic voters of a certain age.
In any event, I do not believe that Mr. Perry will be able to convince voters to view him differently than they did in 2012. As a result I am calling it now. Rick Perry will not be elected President of the United States of America.

Rick Santorum will never be President.
George Gallup, pride of Jefferson, Iowa, virtually invented modern political polling. So, perhaps one should take heed of the recent Gallup/USA Today poll, which found that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum leads President Obama 49%-46% in a national poll and leads 50%-45% in a survey of the swing states of Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Despite this survey, I am going to go ahead and call it. Rick Santorum will never be president of the United States of America. There are 4 reasons why Senator Santorum’s campaign is doomed to failure.

In August, I noted that Herman Cain, Thaddeus McCotter, and Newt Gingrich would "never, ever, ever be the GOP nominee for president in 2012." I was asked over the weekend whether Mr. Gingrich's recent surge has caused me to reconsider this statement. It has not. One need look no further than this article to see why he won't be president.
While I doubt the judiciary is any more "arrogant" now than it has been in the past, does it not occur to Mr. Gingrich, that the majority of federal court judges were appointed by Republicans? By way of example, President George W. Bush appointed a total of 325 judges. President Obama has appointed 123.
I have a lot more I could say about Mr. Gingrich's utterly insane proposals concerning the judiciary but since he will never be president, I will simply point out that his beliefs about a rogue judiciary sound to me a lot like the complaints raised by these two lawyers.

That was fast.
As most Minnesotans will tell you, we really didn't have a governor between the 2008 presidential election and the 2011 swearing in of current governor Mark Dayton. The reason for this was that Tim Pawlenty, the ostensible governor, was either running to be the GOP vice-presidential candidate under John McCain. You may have heard that Senator McCain picked someone else. Once Senator McCain lost the election, Governor Pawlenty started running to be the GOP nominee for president. It would be an understatement to say that Governor Pawlenty spent a lot of time in Iowa.
Despite this, Governor Pawlenty did not capture the hearts of Iowans. He came in a distant third in the the Iowa GOP straw poll yesterday. Now, he has decided to drop out of the race. I don't know whether to commend him for being realistic, deride him for not having the courage to stand as a candidate until an actual, you know, primary or caucus, or simply point out that the GOP race is still full of people who will never, ever, ever, be the GOP nominee for president in 2012.
