A Republican wants to raise taxes. Can you guess why?
According to Fox 34 News in Lubbock County, Texas, Tom Head, the county judge, wants to raise the tax rate in Lubbock County by 1.7 cents in the next fiscal year. According to this, Judge Head is a Republican. Given the modern Republican party is famously anti-tax, Judge Head must have a pretty good reason for wanting to increase taxes, right?
It turns out that that the tax increase would go to: (a) give a pay increase to attorneys in the local district attorneys office; and (b) the sheriff needs to expand his staff by seven deputies. The pay increase for the attorneys will evidently keep those attorneys from looking for jobs elsewhere. What will the seven deputies do? According to Judge Head, they will keep Lubbock County free from the machinations of President Obama.
Judge Head told FOX 34 that if he is re-elected President Obama is "going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the UN." Judge Head then predicted what will happen when President Obama does this. Specifically the judge said, “I'm thinking the worst. Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we're not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations, we're talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy."
Judge Head continued in that vein for awhile, "Now what's going to happen if we do that, if the public decides to do that? He's going to send in U.N. troops. I don't want 'em in Lubbock County. OK. So I'm going to stand in front of their armored personnel carrier and say 'you're not coming in here'."
It turns out that the additional deputies will help defend Lubbock County against the U.N. Troops. Judge Head informed Fox 34 that he discussed this with the local sheriff. To quote the article "And the sheriff, I've already asked him, I said 'you gonna back me' he said, 'yeah, I'll back you'. Well, I don't want a bunch of rookies back there. I want trained, equipped, seasoned veteran officers to back me."
Judge Head's remarks raise a lot of questions. First, if President Obama was going to try and hand over sovereignty of the United States to the United Nations, why not just do it during his first term? That would eliminate any uncertainty over whether he will be able to put his plan into place? Second, does the United Nations even want the sovereignty over the United States? The United Nations does not seem to want the sovereignty of other nations.
Also, not to minimize the abilities of the Lubbock County Sheriff's department, but would seven additional officers really be the difference in whether Lubbock County is able to fend off U.N. Troops in armored personal carriers? Does Lubbock County have access to RoboCops? Would the seven additional deputies be Terminators?
One interesting thing about Judge Head's comments is that when he wants to paint himself acting heroically, he does not bring up the image of Texas heroes like Sam Houston or Audie Murphy. In fact, Judge Head also does not put envision himself acting like any American hero. Instead, by talking about standing in front of armored personnel carriers, Judge Head calls to mind the image of Tank Man, the Chinese man who stood in front of tanks as they attempted to enter Tiananmen Square.
What do you think, Mr. Torvik. Can a small group of determined deputies really hold off the forces of the United Nations? I can think of at least one small group of Texans that tried to fight off a vastly superior force. That did not end very well for the Texans involved.
To be fair to Judge Head, he is just "look[ing] at the worst case scenario." And when someone with paranoid delusions conjures up a worse-case scenario, this is what you get I guess.
