When people were arguing about the Minnesota marriage admendment, people also used a procreation argument as the reason to allow opposite sex marriage but not same sex marriage. I attended a CLE where someone asked why we would allow infertile opposite sex couples to marry and the speaker responded that infertile opposite sex couples were "modeling" the behavior we wanted people to engage in.
